PYROTECHNIC SAFETY NOTES

Pyrotechnics can be dangerous in inexperienced hands. It is therefore critical that attention is paid to the following safety advice:

  • Pyrotechnics ARE explosives
  • DO follow ignition instructions
  • DO wear protective gloves
  • DO wear eye protection
  • DO ignite only one grenade at a time
  • DO throw or roll in a safe direction
  • DO retreat at least 5 metres
  • Pyrotechnics ARE NOT toys
  • CAN NOT be purchased by under 16 years (18 in Great Britain)
  • DO NOT store pyrotechnics in pockets
  • DO NOT carry grenades by the ring pull
  • DO NOT cover gas vent with bare skin
  • DO NOT throw into confined space
  • DO NOT reuse unexploded grenades
  • DO NOT smoke while near or using pyrotechnics
There are also some other factors you may wish to consider:
  • Will my smoke obstruct the vision of vehicles or traffic?
  • Is the space too enclosed or will my smoke cause irritation to peoples breathing?
  • Is the grenade too loud for the environment I am planning to use it in?
  • Will my pyrotechnic cause injury to other people?
  • Will my pyrotechnic disturb or cause damage to animals?
  • Will my pyrotechnic cause the accidental ignition of any other objects?
